Sinopse

With poems that are strongly interconnected and minimalist in nature, Sol descalço highlights Carlos Cardoso's talent among the best in contemporary Brazilian poetry.

In this collection of poems, which include texts from the beginning of the author's literary production, Carlos Cardoso shows his strength in the contrast between the poetics of purification and discursive verse, stitching together religious and sacrilegious references to create a poetry of stripping away, transparent, barefoot.

From Italo Moriconi's introduction: " Sol descalços allows us to uncover the most original sources of Carlos's poetic sensibility. If Melancolia demonstrated technical and thematic maturity, composed of an organic body of poems around the title theme and the metaphors that represented it (the main one being the figure of stone), the present volume is more like a palimpsest, in which different layers of the poet's evolution can be discerned."

A poet who doesn't struggle with words, like Drummond. He clings to them like lifebuoys in the midst of a shipwreck. Here we have a raw poetry, without concessions to banal sentimentality, but which never fails to cast its gaze upon love.

The literary critic also highlights the second part of the work: "Its heart, its core. It goes from "I will be night and I will be day" (p. 37) to "I will follow aimlessly" (p. 59). Some of the poems in this sequence, themselves serial, represent the best of contemporary Brazilian poetry."

The words of Marco Lucchesi, who wrote the blurb, sum up Carlos Cardoso's release: “ Sol descalço brings together a concentrated diversity of trends that confirm, once again, the attentive and sensitive path of an intense and delicate sun.”
