"

The great book by the American actress and acting coach, Stela Adler.

"Acting is a fascinating phenomenon of human nature, and Stella Adler presents us with an incisive and intelligent analysis of acting technique that we have long awaited. I hope everyone enjoys this book as much as I did." - Marlon Brando

In "Theatrical Performance Technique ," some of the most important axioms of modern theater are brought together by Stella Adler. Born in 1901 in New York, she was one of the most important actresses of 20th-century American theater. The youngest daughter of a Jewish family, she began her career at age 4 in the play " Broken Hearts ," staged by the theater company of her father, the renowned actor Jacob P. Adler. In the following years, she performed in several classic plays by authors such as Ibsen , Tolstoy , and Shakespeare . In the 1920s, she attended New York University and later studied at the American Theater Laboratory, where she encountered the methods of Constantin Stanislavski —founder of the Moscow Art Theater and creator of the Stanislavski System, an acting method based on the highest expression of human nature.

In 1931, she joined the Group Theatre, an influential group founded by Lee Strasberg and Harold Clurman, which became an alternative to commercial theater during the American Depression. At the Group Theatre, Stella played some of the most important roles of her career, such as secretary Sarah Glassman in Success Story . In 1937, she left the group to work as a producer at the MGM studio in Hollywood . There, she also appeared in several films, including The Shadow of the Accused . After six years, she returned to Broadway and the stage. In the 1940s, she began teaching theater techniques, and in 1949, she abandoned the stage for good, founding the Stella Adler Acting Studio, which is still active today, in New York. When Stella Adler died in 1992, the theater lost a great diva with unparalleled talent and experience.

With a foreword by American actor Marlon Brando , "Theatrical Acting Technique "—written a few years before Adler's death—is one of the best manuals of its kind and a must-read for every actor. Inspired by Stanislavski 's teachings, the book is a practical, straightforward, and systematic compendium of what actors should do, from the initial reading of a script to the premiere, to bring their roles to life and credibility.
