Every house needs a balcony

In her autobiography, Rina Frank alternates memories of her impoverished childhood with her early adulthood, when she finds a job and falls in love with a wealthy Jewish man from Barcelona. The two eventually marry, but the fairy tale doesn't last forever. Social and cultural differences eventually prevail, and the cracks in the couple's life begin to widen, like an apartment after a botched renovation.
