Twins Grace and Connor Tormenta are back together. After the thrills of Vampirates: Demons of the Ocean, the siblings are aboard the Diablo for new adventures. But the pirate life doesn't seem to suit the twins equally, and while Connor delights in swords, Grace can't stop thinking about the friends she left behind on the Vampirate ship. But after an attack led by Captain Molucco Wrathe goes wrong and a young pirate is killed, Grace thinks the best course of action is to find a safer place for herself and her brother. The solution seems to lie in the hands of Cheng Li, who invites the twins to spend a week at the Pirate Academy. In this way, Grace hopes to keep her brother away from danger, while Cheng Li has the chance to show the twins that piracy has even more to offer those who follow the rules. Still, Grace can't shake her experience on the Vampirate ship and remembers her friends day and night—especially the handsome and kind Lorcan, who helped her so much during her turbulent time aboard. To top it all off, a ring given to her by the vampire allows the young woman to return to the deck on mysterious astral journeys. It is during one of these visits that Grace discovers that Lorcan is paying a high price for protecting her. But this isn't the only problem on the Vampirate ship: more and more rebels follow the wicked Sidorio in his endless thirst for blood, and the captain no longer knows what to do to control them. Grace and Connor must follow different paths: will he choose the practical learning provided by adventures aboard the Diablo or the safer, more welcoming terrain of the Pirate Academy? And what can Grace do to save her friends from the dangers lurking on the Vampirate ship—without risking her own life?
