Sinopse
"

A special edition celebrating the 40th anniversary of Alice Walker's masterpiece, winner of the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction and the National Book Award. This hardcover, three-sided ink version of The Color Purple includes a previously unpublished foreword by the author, as well as texts by Stephanie Borges and Carla Akotirene.

A masterpiece by award-winning author Alice Walker, The Color Purple tells the story of Celie, a Black woman living in the rural South during the period of racial segregation. The young woman suffers various forms of violence from her stepfather and the man she is forced to marry. But her life changes considerably after the arrival of Shug Avery, her husband's lover, who helps her discover more about herself.

Addressing gender inequality, racism, misogyny, and social inequality, the narrative is constructed through letters written by Celie to God and to her sister, Nettie, from whom she was forced to separate. Alice Walker's language is extremely lyrical, in keeping with the protagonist's hallmark: her extreme sensitivity and delicacy, which withstand the adverse circumstances she experiences.

In writing this acclaimed book, the author introduced readers to some of the most iconic characters in American literature. It's no coincidence that the work was adapted for the screen by Steven Spielberg, starring Whoopi Goldberg in the lead role, and was nominated for an Oscar, as well as being performed on Broadway. The Color Purple is a landmark in the history of fiction.

"What makes Alice Walker's writing so indelibly moving is the narrative choice that [...] generates an intimate identification with the heroine." – The New York Times
