Dog Beach Party

A novel considered a landmark in the history of detective literature and a fascinating study of fear. Two political prisoners, Major Dantas C., 46, married, and architect Fontenova, 25, manage to escape from the military prison where they were awaiting trial for revolutionary conspiracy. Collaborating in their escape are a young corporal serving in the prison and the major's lover, Mena, a former university student. Thus begins "Balada da Praia dos Cães," a gripping murder story based on true events and under the command of a charismatic figure, Major Dantas C. The book was written based on the account of the man accused as co-author of the crime and police reports, which gives the reader a very strong sense of proximity and verisimilitude.
