THE DOLPHIN

The revolutionary year left its mark on Paris, Prague, Mexico City, and Brazil, and Portugal was also a hub where 1968 resonated. In literature, Cardoso Pires, with his novel The Dolphin, was and continues to be a major representative of the innovative language that became a benchmark in contemporary Portuguese literature. The linguistic resources used in the novel, such as remembrances and distortions, give meaning to the interplay of time and space established in the novel. Cardoso Pires uses these resources to break with the linear parameters of the narrative, but at the same time to manifest resonances of reality. In an oppressive setting, the lagoon and the Dolphin suggest readings and versions that satisfy the need for freedom.
