Sinopse

Overcoming academicism, Flesh and Stone brings reflections on social and aesthetic issues in our time.

Richard Sennett, a professor at the London School of Economics and New York University, has researched the relationship between the human body and urban space: from ancient Greece to modern New York; from the celebration of the French Revolution to the simple history of the chair; from the fate of the Jews in the Venetian ghetto, during the Renaissance, to the fate of the bourgeois citizen in 19th-century Paris.

The result is this book that goes beyond academic study, becoming both realistic and courageously imaginative.

Sennett constructs a fascinating essay that leads us to rethink the social and aesthetic issues of the time.

“Fascinating. The drama of urban life has an explosive effect.” – Chicago Tribune

“The compelling story of cities told through the movements of people.” – Publishers Weekly
