Sinopse
"

In his most ambitious book, Richard Sennett - one of the most important contemporary intellectuals - explores non-industrialized manual labor.

Sennett connects physical effort to ethical values and discusses the desire to do things as well as the frustration and harm caused when this desire is denied. With an original approach, he expands the concept of "craftsmanship" and impresses by showing how much one can learn about oneself through the act of producing by hand.

In The Artificer, through interesting examples - such as the construction of the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, the way Antonio Stradivarius ran his violin workshop, or a coded recipe written by an Iranian refugee - he shows how work done by the hands can animate the work of the mind.

"A charming author with much to say." - The Guardian

"This book is an erudite, original and ethical journey through culture." - Financial Times
