Along the way, in addition to many scares and dangers, Felix encounters Zelda, a 6-year-old girl he saves from a fire. In this volume, Felix and Zelda, after escaping from a train carrying Jews to a concentration camp in Poland, need courage, creativity, and luck to avoid being caught by the Nazis or dying of hunger or cold. This is a book that evokes emotion and tenderness as it narrates, from a child's perspective, the hardships of those who fought to survive the Holocaust. So, part of the desire to include a truly remarkable example: the story of people willing to risk everything to offer friendship and protection to a stranger.
