Everyone deserves to have something good in life at least once. A book that might appeal to readers of The Diary of Anne Frank.

Felix Salinger, a Jewish boy living in Poland, loves to read and is excellent at writing and telling stories. And that's what he does most while waiting in a Catholic orphanage for his parents, who had gone to run the family bookstore. One day, in the dinner line, Felix was given a soup with a whole carrot in it. In those days when even fresh bread for breakfast was impossible, a whole carrot could only be a sign. The message became clearer when Jewish books from the orphanage library were turned into a massive bonfire. His parents and the family bookstore were in danger. The boy knew he had to return home to help them.
Thus begins Felix's journey through a country overrun by Nazi soldiers, informant neighbors, and also by people willing to help. The boy's incredible imagination is his best companion in understanding the horrific reality that surrounds him.
This is a special book, which makes us witness the horror of the Holocaust through the sweet and innocent eyes of a child. It's a delicate story that makes us reflect on intolerance, racism, abuse of power, loss, and grief. But it also affirms the power of friendship, perseverance, and literature to build a better world.
