Antônio Torres

Antônio Torres, antes de chegar à literatura, passou pelo jornalismo, primeiro na Bahia, estado em que nasceu (Sátiro Dias, 1940), depois em São Paulo, onde migrou para a publicidade. Morou três anos em Portugal e hoje vive no Rio de Janeiro, depois de um longo período em Itaipava, na Região Serrana Fluminense. Sua estreia literária se deu em 1972, com o romance Um cão uivando para a lua, que causou grande impacto na crítica e no público, e foi seguido por Os homens dos pés redondos (1973). De lá para cá, publicou quase vinte livros, entre os quais se destacam a Trilogia Brasil (Essa terra, O cachorro e o lobo, Pelo fundo da agulha) e Querida cidade. Sua premiada obra, que passeia por cenários urbanos, rurais e históricos, tem várias edições no Brasil e traduções em muitos países. Membro da Academia Brasileira de Letras, da Academia de Letras da Bahia, da Academia Petropolitana de Letras e da Academia Contemporânea de Letras (São Paulo), é sócio correspondente da Academia das Ciências de Lisboa.
