The first reissued volume, part of Volume 1, is From Discovery to Territorial Expansion - The Colonial Era , and is divided into five parts: The Old World and Brazil; The Land and the People; The Advent of the White Man; The External Threat; and Territorial Expansion. The next will be Administration, Economy, Society.
The monarchical period is covered in five volumes. It begins with an analysis of the conditions of Brazil's emancipation and concludes with the crisis of the monarchical regime and the transition to the Republic, in a now-classic volume written entirely by Sérgio Buarque de Holanda.
The four volumes of the republican period are divided into two periods: one before and one after 1930, a year of global crisis and revolution in Brazil. The final section of the books that conclude each period includes a bibliography and a summary chronology outlining the events.
