Sinopse
"

In celebration of his 100th birthday, Edgar Morin presents readers with an inspiring and invigorating text, but also lucid and revealing.

A sociologist, anthropologist, historian, and philosopher, Edgar Morin is one of the greatest contemporary thinkers and one of the last great intellectuals from the golden age of 20th-century French thought. Author of more than 80 books on topics ranging from cinema to education, politics to psychology, in this book, "Lessons from a Century of Life," he delves into his own history.

We get to know the man, the resister, the companion, the thinker, the father. We learn more about his philosophy, the works he wrote and those that influenced his personality, his perspective on the world, humanity, and politics. However, Lessons from a Century of Life has a much broader scope than Edgar Morin's life and thought, as it represents a testament to the 20th century: its horrors, its failed utopias, its revolutions that brought hope.

Morin points out some of humanity's impasses, suggests solutions, and acknowledges some collective and individual mistakes. The author turns to the past to tell us about the present and even the future: he evokes new challenges—and risks—that we must face and, above all, how we can leverage our education to embrace what lies ahead.

Through his moving story and his final aphorisms that illuminate our path, Edgar Morin keeps his promise: to share the lessons his life has taught him without giving us a lesson.
