The Sonderberg Affair

Werner Sonderberg, a young German living in the United States, travels with his elderly uncle to the Adirondacks and returns alone. Accused of murder, Werner claims to be "guilty... and not guilty." This strange case arouses in Yedidyah, the theater critic his editor-in-chief has exceptionally tasked with "covering" the trial, a dark fascination he struggles to explain: as if his own destiny were being played out. Sensing he is encountering a family secret, he delves into his past. The lightheartedness of New York comedy is inferior to the melancholy of European tragedy. Stalked by madness, he resorts to hypnosis to rediscover images of his early childhood and attempt to reconcile himself with "a story that, until the end of time, will shame all humanity."
