Sinopse

Victor Vale and Eli Ever have been mortal enemies since their youth. But right and wrong aren't always so clear when extraordinary humans play with their superpowers. Who's right and who's wrong? A gripping story about ambition, envy, desire, and superpowers from V.E. Schwab, author of the Shades of Magic series, will have readers hooked from the very first page.

Victor and Eli, two brilliant, arrogant, and lonely young men, met at Merit University and immediately hit it off, recognizing in each other their shared wit and ambition. In their senior year, their shared interest in research on adrenaline, near-death experiences, and supernatural powers offers them a previously unimaginable possibility: that a person, under the right conditions, is capable of developing extraordinary abilities. However, when they put this theory into practice, things go horribly wrong.

Ten years later, Victor escapes from prison, determined to find his former friend—now enemy. To locate him, he enlists the help of a little girl, Sydney, whose reserved nature hides a unique but extremely dangerous ability. Meanwhile, for ten years, Eli has had a single mission: to eradicate all the ExtraOrdinary people he encounters, for they are all aberrations, affronts to God—except for his sidekick, Serena, an enigmatic and persuasive woman capable of imposing her will on anyone.

Now, armed with terrible powers and driven by the memory of betrayal and loss, Victor hunts his arch-enemy for revenge and a clash in which he knows one of them must die.
