Living on the edge

A REFLECTION ON FORMS OF TRANSTERRITORIALITY AND THEIR FUTURE DEVELOPMENTS FOR SOCIETY. Today's world is marked by discourses of insecurity, policies, and even preventive wars, where the present is often experienced as if people were permanently on the edge, on the borders. Living on the Edge analyzes this new reality and how territorial controls become more complex and fundamental. The book is divided into two parts: in the first, more conceptual in nature, the author questions the zonal or area-based logic of spatial management and the new role of the State. In the second section, the processes of deterritorialization are analyzed from the perspective of security and biopolitics that characterize contemporary society. It is from this context that dynamics emerge that, beyond simple precariousness and territorial seclusion, involve what is called territorial containment and exclusion—quite evident in the case of a megalopolis like Rio de Janeiro.
