Adélia Prado nasceu em 1935, em Divinópolis, MG, onde vive até hoje. Vencedora de inúmeros prêmios literários – entre os quais Camões, Griffin, Machado de Assis, Jabuti e Biblioteca Nacional –, estreou com Bagagem (1975) e foi alternando entre poesia e prosa (incluindo contos, romances, livros infantis e peça de teatro) até O jardim das oliveiras (2025), livro de poemas inéditos lançado aos 90 anos. Condecorada pelo governo brasileiro com a Ordem do Mérito Cultural em 2014, é hoje uma das escritoras mais importantes do país.
