Officer Monica Jansson searches the remains of the home of a reclusive scientist who mysteriously disappeared. While digging through the rubble, Jansson finds a curious artifact: a box containing rudimentary wiring, a three-way switch, and… a potato.

It's the prototype of a Jumper, a device that allows travel to infinite parallel Earths, one jump at a time. But apparently, only the original Earth supports human life—the others are incredible variations of virgin fauna and flora, endless worlds with vast natural resources.

Years later, Joshua Valienté is a natural jumper, who doesn't need the device to travel between universes. After spending much of his life as a solitary wanderer across the multiple Earths he has access to, he is recruited by the influential Black Corporation for a journey of exploration.

The goal: to travel to the farthest reaches of these multiple worlds, moving further and further away from Standard Earth, and discover the secrets and surprises that Long Earth holds in store.
