Sinopse

Eric Hobsbawm criticizes the sectarian, fundamentalist, and emotional left that has alienated the masses of people.

How can we defeat a reactionary administration intent on destroying all the social gains of the working class? How can we stop a government that wields seemingly uncontrollable centralized power? In Margaret Thatcher's England, Eric Hobsbawm poses these questions and advocates, against the sectarian and emotional left, a negotiated solution: the union of all oppositions into a broad front. A controversial book in its origins, Strategies for a Rational Left , although focused on the English case of the 1980s, presents essential food for thought for progressive forces of all stripes.

"Eric Hobsbawm is one of the most creative British Marxist historians. Anyone who teaches in schools or universities is aware of the effect of his writings [...]. Hobsbawm has this effect because he is able to find in history a dynamic yet comprehensible movement." – Ross McKibbin, historian, The London Review of Books.
