Sinopse
"

One of Jane Austen's most acclaimed works, translated by Rachel de Queiroz.

Mansfield Park is Jane Austen's third published novel, and this edition features a translation by Rachel de Queiroz. This novel marks the author's maturity, adopting a more restrained tone than in other works, such as Sense and Sensibility and Pride and Prejudice .

Fanny Price, the protagonist, is a shy and insecure young woman who leaves her poor parents' home to live with her aunt and uncle, who are better off financially. She soon becomes close to her cousin Edmund, who becomes her best friend, but also faces setbacks, receiving different treatment from the rest of the family. The arrival of the Crawford family on the neighboring estate disrupts the household routine, and Edmund falls in love with Miss Crawford, while her brother shows an unrequited interest in Fanny.

Fanny initially appears sweet and submits to the will of others without protest. However, as the plot unfolds, she reveals herself to be a deep and complex person, capable of asserting herself and expressing her desires, even reacting to a marriage desired by all the other women in her circle. In this work, Jane Austen reveals conflicts within the human soul and social issues that were very present in 19th-century England. Mansfield Park presents the dissimulation present in social relations and the conflict arising from the encounter between different classes, in addition to questioning women's decision-making power in society.
