Sinopse
FHC paints a picture of the "moral crisis" haunting Brazil, highlighted by corruption scandals and deepened by disastrous economic decisions. The Misery of Politics brings together texts written by Fernando Henrique Cardoso between 2010 and 2015. Published in major newspapers or presented at conferences in Brazil and abroad, they paint a picture of the "moral crisis" haunting Brazil and point to possible directions for reinventing politics and strengthening democracy. As José Serra states on the book's blurb: "In each article, in each analysis, in each moral judgment, in each path he charts for those inspired by him, Fernando Henrique Cardoso never abandons the coherence of his principles, the rigor of his analysis, and the reference to the public good as the ultimate objective. The intellectual, in the author, uses analytical capacity as a barrier against opportunistic 'realism,' while the politician, in him, combats voluntarism with the force of reality."
