Sinopse
"

In Bangkok, for every cockroach you see, there are at least ten hidden, lurking; for every secret revealed, there are at least ten that remain in the shadows.

In Cockroaches , Inspector Harry Hole arrives in sultry Bangkok. His mission: to prevent a scandal. The Norwegian ambassador was found dead with a dagger in his back in a dubious hotel. The Norwegian government wants the investigation closed quickly, fearing that the ambassador's friendship with the prime minister will undermine the parliamentary leader's popularity. To this end, the most insubordinate detective in the Oslo police Homicide Division is sent to Thailand to solve the case before it becomes headline news.

Upon arrival, Harry realizes that the ambassador's family is hiding something, but no one seems willing to talk. All he can discover is that the ambassador lost a lot of money in horse racing and had debts with loan sharks. However, Harry has a feeling there's something even more sinister behind the crime.

Facing Bangkok's hot weather and chaotic traffic, as well as the effects of alcohol withdrawal, Harry scours prostitution dens, opium dens, and fake travel agencies in search of the pieces of the puzzle that, apparently, no one wants him to put together. And the only person he can trust is Inspector Liz Crumley, who is willing to risk her life and career to help him.

As Harry navigates the maze of false leads, other crimes shed new light on the case. Important people may be harboring terrifying secrets, and as he gets closer to the truth, he risks becoming the next victim.

If you're a fan of The Snowman and Stieg Larsson's Millennium trilogy, you'll love Cockroaches .
