Sinopse

Four important feminist books brought together for the first time in a box. Comes with a 29 x 38 cm cotton eco-friendly bag.

This Essential Library of Feminism presents four books that truly bring together what is essential, fundamental, in feminist thought. Betty Friedan's classic * The Feminine Mystique *, which inaugurated the second wave, indicates that the "real cause for feminism [...] was the emptiness of the housewifely role." Naomi Wolf's *The Beauty Myth* marked the beginning of the third wave, stating that "We are in the midst of a violent backlash against feminism, which uses images of feminine beauty as a political weapon against women's evolution." *Feminism Is for Everyone* presents the visionary Black feminism of bell hooks, who states: "Feminism is a movement to end sexism, sexist exploitation, and oppression." *Feminism in Common* , by Marcia Tiburi, is a beautiful introduction to feminisms, including trans and Indigenous feminisms, and tells us that "Feminism is the opposite of loneliness."

The Feminine Mysticism (560 pages)

In this pioneering work, drawing on interviews, questionnaires, and a vast bibliography, Friedan identified a social symptom she called the "problem without a name." Manipulated by consumer society, white heterosexual American women living in middle-class suburbs abandoned the suffragettes' ideal of libertarian behavior, in vogue until the 1930s, and began to incorporate an imaginary of the "feminine" projected by white men who had returned from war fantasizing about sexist gender standards.

Criticized by some and praised by others, The Feminine Mystique investigates how the social norm that defines women based on a frivolous, consumerist existence, devoted to the home, husband and children, to which they were destined, was constructed and maintained.

The Beauty Myth (490 pages)

In The Beauty Myth , journalist Naomi Wolf claims that the cult of beauty and youth in women is encouraged by patriarchy and acts as a mechanism of social control to prevent the fulfillment of feminist ideals of intellectual, sexual and economic emancipation achieved since the 1970s.

Readers will find exposed the tyranny of the beauty myth throughout time, its oppressive function and its current manifestations in the home and at work, in literature and the media, in relationships between men and women and between women and women.

This revised and expanded edition features an introduction by the author contextualizing the book for today's readers, as it has been out of Brazilian bookstores for more than two decades.

Feminism is for everyone (176 pages)

Acclaimed Black feminist bell hooks introduces us, in this accessible primer, to the nature of feminism and its commitment to fighting sexism, sexist exploitation, and any form of oppression.

The book offers an original perspective on feminist politics, reproductive rights, beauty, feminist class struggle, global feminism, labor, race and gender, and the end of violence. It also illuminates topics such as feminist education for critical consciousness, feminist masculinity, feminist mothering and fathering, liberating marriage and partnership, feminist sexual politics, lesbianism and feminism, feminist love, feminist spirituality, and visionary feminism. With remarkable clarity and candor, hooks encourages readers to discover how feminism can touch and change everyone's lives for the better.

Feminism in Common (126 pages)

The first feminist book written by philosopher Marcia Tiburi, Feminism in Common invites us to rethink the patriarchal structures of a system deeply rooted in culture and institutions and to take feminism seriously, beyond fads and pre-written discourse. It is hoped that by critiquing and rethinking the movement, using language accessible to both beginners and those with more experience, Feminism in Common will be able to improve our way of seeing and inventing life.
