Why Neoliberalism Won't Lead Us to a More Just Society

Following his bestsellers "Inequality" and "What the Power Brokers Don't Want You to Know ," in "Economy of Desire ," Eduardo Moreira reveals why the idea that the State should be more concerned with the economy than with meeting citizens' basic needs is economically unsustainable. To this end, he conceptualizes the economy of desire: one that operates with incessant lack, which is even responsible for the high consumption of superfluous goods by a certain segment of society, while another segment remains in poverty or below the poverty line. According to the author, for Brazil to become a poverty-free country, a step toward an economy of necessity is necessary. This way, everyone's basic needs will be met and the economy will become stronger.
