Sinopse
In the new version of the play that inspired the Rede Globo soap opera, Roque Santeiro, Cabo Jorge, killed in Italy as a soldier in the Brazilian Expeditionary Force, became a hero in his hometown. Brave in the face of the Nazi enemy, he paid with his life for the right to be free. A soldier of democracy, he filled the hearts of his beloved homeland with pride. His town, modest and lost in the country's remote interior, adopted the name Cabo Jorge and became a tourist destination. The dates of his birth and death were celebrated on the civic calendar of every school in Brazil. However, surprisingly, the soldier reappears in the town, alive and well, as if it were all a big joke. He had been wounded in combat and, to avoid escaping the truth, had fled the fight. He had deserted. How could one accept that Cabo Jorge (the corporal) would ruin the commerce and industry of Cabo Jorge (the town)? The Cradle of the Hero is a political comedy in which the myth of heroism is shattered after being examined by the author in light of the interests of the Brazilian ruling class.
