Sinopse
"

One of the great modern Brazilian plays, for its artistic intentions and its social concerns.

The holy inquiry tells the story of Branca Dias, a naive new Christian, daughter of Simão Dias and fiancée of Augusto Coutinho, who was persecuted after committing an act that, in her eyes, she considered to be extremely kind: saving the town priest from drowning.

Based on a historical episode - or a legendary one, like that of Branca Dias, a victim of the Inquisition whom some scholars see as a kind of country Joan of Arc -, Dias Gomes immediately dismisses the easy, spectacular, and showy pomp that a romantic writer would bring to the stage.

What matters to him is the conflict between the purity of the character, his good faith, his sincerity, and those who distort his behavior, seeing him as a threat to the order and the system of established ideals.
