Elected to the Brazilian Academy of Letters in 1991, Dias Gomes brings in Odorico a narrative about the adventures of Odorico Paraguaçu, the Mayor of Sucupira, with his unique talent and ingenuity.
“From the play O Bem-Amado to the successful TV series of the same title — one of the best television productions of all time, in any country —, and finally to the short stories of Sucupira, Ame-a ou Deixa-a, and now this Odorico na Cabeça , what resulted were not just variations of the irresistible chronicle of this very contradictory political boss from the interior, but complete recreations, with language and characteristics suited to three communication vehicles with their own syntax.” Ênio Silveira
Dias Gomes was so successful in each of his creations that, today, Sucupira is a municipality known throughout Brazil, and its most prominent figures – Odorico, Zeca Diabo, Dirceu Borboleta, Lulu Gouveia, the Cajazerias, Dona Chica Bandeira and Padre Honório – have become national personalities.
Always with a challenging tone, this Odorico in the head brings together the texts The Chafarotic, Only those who mount fall, The War of the Wicked, An Analyst in Sucupira, A Donkey in the Vatican, The Deceased Gone with the Wind , and the original script of the first episode of the Sucupira trilogy goes to the polls - at the time, at the request of the PDT and the PTB, prohibited from being aired by the Regional Electoral Court.
Talent and ingenuity are two striking qualities throughout the literary output of award-winning Dias Gomes. Deeply connected to the joys and sorrows of the people, the author not only chooses themes that connect broadly with large masses of people, but also contribute to their upliftment, helping them become self-aware and aware of their legitimate right to have a voice and vote on matters of national interest.
Novelist, playwright, soap opera author and member of the Brazilian Academy of Letters, Dias Gomes was one of the most celebrated writers of the 20th century. He died in 1999.
