Republican Brazil: The time of democratic experience (Vol. 3)

Third volume of the most important collection on the Republic in Brazil, in a revised edition.

In the first decades of the 21st century, themes such as democracy, citizenship, and the Republic emerged, in varying interpretations, as dilemmas and challenges facing Brazilian society on a daily basis. Sharing these concerns, we planned and organized the collection "O Brasil Republicano" ( Republican Brazil), in five volumes: "The Time of Oligarchic Liberalism " (revised edition), "The Time of National-Statism" (revised edition), "The Time of Democratic Experience" (revised edition), " The Time of Authoritarian Regime" (revised edition), and "The Time of the New Republic" (new volume).

This third volume of the Republican Brazil collection deals with the Third Republic.

In early 1945, the Estado Novo dictatorship entered into crisis, while dictator Vargas's prestige grew among workers. With the consolidation of democracy, diverse figures began to express themselves politically: workers, peasants, military personnel, businesspeople, students, artists, intellectuals, and others. Experiencing a democratic experience, the Brazilian population, through voting, demonstrated a preference for the national-statist project championed by labor and communists, but not for the program of the liberal UDNists. Ultimately, the right became radicalized, refusing to accept any kind of reform, defending its privileges at all costs. The left also became radicalized, demanding change. The political crisis brought down the liberal democratic regime and resulted in the establishment of a dictatorship.
