Sinopse
"

The only play by Nobel Prize-winning author Ernest Hemingway, The Fifth Column transports the reader to the horrors of the battles of the Spanish Civil War.

The military uprising of the right-wing forces led by Franco, which marked the beginning of the bloody and cruel Civil War that would devastate the country, thus powerfully mobilized Hemingway's spirit and heart. For him, fascism was the antithesis of all the defining qualities of the Spanish people, and so he opposed the insurgents in every possible way—including four visits to the front lines to fight, weapon in hand, against Francoist troops, and a series of reports he produced as a correspondent for major American newspapers.

It was during one of these prolonged trips of observation and solidarity that, under heavy enemy bombardment, he surprisingly found the physical and mental time to write the text of The Fifth Column in Madrid, at the Hotel Florida.
