Sinopse

A collection of poems by the author at the height of his form, Poetic Anthology returns in a new project, with an afterword by Zélia Duncan.

Until 1962, when this anthology was released, the poetic work of Carlos Drummond de Andrade, then 60 years old, was made up of the following books: Some poetry , Brejo das almas , Sentimento do mundo , José , A rosa do povo , Novos poemas , Claro enigma , Fazendeiro do ar , Viola de bolso , Viola de bolso restrungo , A vida passa a limpo, and A Lição de coisas . All of them are classics of our literature today.

The mere fact that Drummond himself selected the poems that comprise this collection would be enough to make this collection special. But the way he organized it, dividing it into thematic sections, makes it a true map of the poet's sensibility, indicating the paths not only of his past work but also of what was yet to be written.

There are nine sections in total, with poems about: 1) the individual; 2) the homeland; 3) the family; 4) friends; 5) the social and political world; 6) love; 7) poetry itself; 8) poetic amusements; 9) the existential condition.

This thematic breadth, rare in any writer, is combined with a great formal variety and remarkable technical competence, which makes Drummond, without a doubt, one of the most complete poets in the Portuguese language, past and present.

The new editions of Carlos Drummond de Andrade's work feature texts edited by experts, with unprecedented access to the collection of annotated copies and manuscripts he left behind. In "Antologia poética" (Poetic Anthology ), readers will find an afterword by singer-songwriter Zélia Duncan, as well as selected bibliographies by and about Drummond; and the section titled "At the Time of Release," a chronology of the three years immediately before and after the book's first publication.

Complete bibliographies, a chronology of the poet's life and work, and variations in the process of fixing the texts are available via the QR code located on the back cover of this volume.
