Sinopse

Published by Editora Record in 2005, Declaration of Love returns to bookstores in this new, revised and expanded edition, with a selection of the most beautiful love poems by Carlos Drummond de Andrade.

"What can a creature do if not, / among creatures, love?" asks Carlos Drummond de Andrade in a poem from this collection, edited by two of his grandsons, Luis Mauricio Graña Drummond and Pedro Augusto Graña Drummond, and by Edmílson Caminha, a scholar of his work. Here, love is not an abstract theme, a dream, a fantasy, but an attraction brimming with libido, desire, and the pulse of life. One of the greatest names in 20th-century world literature, the poet avoids sentimentality, melodrama, or appeals to emotion, but creates verses that enchant the reader with their human richness, the strength of feelings, and the refinement of form. Often, also with their delicacy and sense of humor.

Published by Editora Record in 2005, Declaration of Love returns to bookstores in this new, revised and expanded edition, with a hardcover, to which six poems from the book Poesia errante are added: “A essa altura da vida” (At this height in life), “Amor – eu digo” (Lover’s Song), “Nossa história de amor” (Our Love Story), “Papinho lírico no Dia dos Namorados” (Lyrical Chat on Valentine’s Day) and “Quero sentir” (I Want to Feel). Declarations of love that make us agree with Drummond, when he wrote: “Love is the cousin of death, / and the victor over death, / no matter how much they kill it (and they kill it) / at every moment of love.”
