Sinopse
Dialoguing with One's Own History is a record of encounters between people willing to speak and listen, and an invitation to join the conversation. I would also say it is an opportunity for recognition in the interlocutor's life. Paulo Freire and Sérgio Guimarães address political and cultural contexts they experienced, starting with the dictatorship in Brazil. The involuntary nomadism they had to endure, due to political issues, also becomes an opportunity for "learning about the world" and encountering the "other." The dialogue initiated in Geneva presents elements of contemporary history with the meaning of those who experienced them, a concrete exercise of a key concept of Paulo Freire's: the subject of history. Recognizing oneself as a subject of history is an extremely important political and pedagogical exercise, and the impact of this notion in countries that have experienced dictatorships is unquestionable. Their perspective is participatory politics and dialogical education, committed to the emancipation of the marginalized from mechanisms of exclusion and control. They not only theorize and practice it, but also credit it with prominence in the transformations of post-totalitarian societies. Both know that memory follows non-linear paths. Their conversation seems endless and instigates beyond the printed page. We could read them solely through their memories, however, the provocation of exposing themselves in this way is more radical. They subtly invite us into our memories, encouraging other stories to surface. Thus, anonymous subjects can become visible subjects, which allows the dialogues between the authors, and with them, to continue throughout the world. Marcos Reigota

Sobre o autor

Paulo Freire

"

Integra o International Adult and Continuing Education Hall of Fame e o Reading Hall of Fame.
