Sinopse

In The War of the Wolf, the protagonist Uhtred faces one of his most fearsome adversaries. This is the eleventh volume of The Saxon Chronicles , the saga that gave rise to the Netflix series The Last Kingdom .

Lord Uhtred of Bebbanburg knows that peace is still a distant dream. Although he won the battle for his ancestral home, rebellions threaten Mercia, and the Norwegians lurk for opportunities to invade.

With the kingdom in turmoil, Uhtred comes face to face with King Sköll, a bloodthirsty Norwegian leader who commands an army of úlfhéðnar, the wolf warriors, determined to dominate the kingdom - and kill all in his path.

Surrounded and outnumbered by these new enemies, Uhtred must rely on his skill and courage to survive and prevent his beloved Northumbria from falling into the hands of the invading hordes.

Peace is a distant dream for the England envisioned by King Alfred.

Uhtred is lord of Bebbanburg once again. After years of struggle, he has finally reclaimed the ancestral fortress that was taken from him. However, his life as lord of Northumbria is far from peaceful, as ancient ties still linger at his door.

Mercia suffers from rebellions throughout, and Norwegians take advantage of the region's instability to occupy new lands of the Christian kingdom. Thus, a leader emerges among the Norwegian tribal chieftains: Sköll Grimmarson.

A bloodthirsty, cruel man who leads an army of úlfhéðnar, the wolf warriors, ruthless fighters whose greatest pleasure is spilling the blood of their enemies.

However, the kingdom that Sköll wants to dominate is not Mercia, but Northumbria, Uhtred's land.

Now Uhtred must deal with the hordes threatening Northumbria, while being torn between his oath to the Northumbrian king and the plans of his former protégé and Alfred's grandson, Prince Æthelstan, to unify England.

Due to its immense success and rich historical content, the Saxon Chronicles saga spawned the BBC television series The Last Kingdom , which premiered in 2015. The second season was co-produced by Netflix, which then began streaming the series. The series follows the adventures of protagonist Uhtred as he searches for his identity in this great war.
