Sinopse

In The Heathen Warrior , acclaimed British historical novelist Bernard Cornwell tells the daring plan of Uhtred, one of the last pagan Saxon lords, to recapture the fortress of Bebbanburg from his usurping uncle. This is the seventh volume of The Saxon Chronicles , the saga by Bernard Cornwell that inspired the Netflix series The Last Kingdom .

Attacked by the Church, by its followers, without his lands and with few men, Uhtred's mission will not be easy, but he has the opportunity once and for all to seal the fate of Britain and his rivalry with Cnut.

The protagonist's glory days seem to be in the past. Britain has plunged into a tense peace, and although the Danish threat still looms, neither side seems willing to risk a confrontation capable of destroying everything around them. Away from the battlefield, Uhtred himself feels aged and incapable of single-handedly changing the course of a rivalry that has spanned generations.

However, the Norns, once again, weave the tapestry of fate and change the warrior's journey.

After an accident, Uhtred, one of the last pagan lords among the Saxons, finds himself increasingly hostile to the Church, whose power only grows. Deprived of possessions and allies, he clings to his ancient beliefs, his skill in war, and the power of his name to survive in a world that has suddenly become aggressive again.

His only hope is to carry out a bold and risky plan: to reclaim, with just a few men, Bebbanburg, the fortress where he grew up, a legacy left by his father and usurped by his uncle many years before.

What Uhtred doesn't know is that his personal mission will put him in the middle of a dangerous ruse, capable of reigniting the confrontation between Saxons and Danes and leading them back to slaughter in a battle that will seal the future of Britain.

Due to its immense success and rich historical content, the Saxon Chronicles saga spawned the BBC television series The Last Kingdom , which premiered in 2015. The second season was co-produced by Netflix, which then began streaming the series. The series follows the adventures of protagonist Uhtred as he searches for his identity in this great war.
