Sinopse

The Firebringer is the tenth volume in the New York Times bestselling The Saxon Chronicles series, which spawned the Netflix series The Last Kingdom .

It's 917 AD, and Uhtred is a man in his 60s, but he's still a fierce and fearsome warrior. Alfred is long dead, and his son Edward now leads the effort to drive the Danes from all Saxon lands. Edward's sister, Æthelflaed, rules neighboring Mercia and still considers Uhtred—a former lover—her protector. Britain is in a state of uneasy peace. Northumbria's Viking ruler, Sigtryggr, and the Saxon queen Æthelflaed have agreed to a truce. And so, England's greatest warrior, Uhtred of Bebbanburg, finally has the chance to reclaim the home his traitorous uncle stole from him many years ago—and which his cunning cousin still occupies.

But fate is inexorable, and Uhtred's enemies, the oaths he has sworn, and a web of intrigue conspire to distract him from his dream of reclaiming his home.

New enemies enter the fight for the kingdoms of England: the fearsome Constantine of Scotland seizes the opportunity for conquest and leads his armies south. Thus, the already precarious peace of Britain could turn into a war that would annihilate it once and for all. However, Uhtred is determined, and nothing, neither new nor old enemies, will be able to keep him from his birthright. He is the lord of Bebbanburg, the descendant of Ida the Firebringer, and he will need all the skills he has honed in a lifetime of battle to make his dream a reality.

Due to its immense success and rich historical content, the Saxon Chronicles saga spawned the BBC television series The Last Kingdom , which premiered in 2015. The second season was co-produced by Netflix, which then began streaming the series. The series follows the adventures of protagonist Uhtred as he searches for his identity in this great war.
