Sinopse
"

Commemorative edition celebrating the publication's 30th anniversary.

One of the high points of Brazilian literature, a must-have for any library, A República dos sonhos (The Republic of Dreams) returns to bookstores in a special edition, featuring a hardcover, an essay by writer Alberto Mussa, and a gallery of images chronicling the book's history, including manuscripts from the first edition and a map of the characters' development. Nélida Piñon draws inspiration from her Galician roots to create a saga about the adventures of the immigrants who arrived in Brazil at the turn of the century and a cultural legacy built with tears, sweat, and dreams.

Madruga is a young peasant who leaves his native Galicia to board a ship bound for Rio de Janeiro, accompanied by his companion Venâncio. Beginning with a humble job in a boarding house in Praça Mauá, Madruga's life unfolds as a series of successes and failures that test his ideals of freedom and happiness. Decades later, it is up to his granddaughter Breta to piece together the fragments and reconstruct her family's story, which is intertwined with the country's recent history.
