Sinopse
Winter is harsh in Spain in 1812. For Richard Sharpe, it's the worst he's ever faced. Not because of the cold or the siege of Ciudad Rodrigo, a city the British army quickly captures after a battle with very few casualties. But because he no longer holds the rank of captain. His provisional promotion, granted by General Wellington, wasn't sanctioned through the Army's bureaucratic procedures. Thus, his position is filled by a wealthy man, with enough money to pay for the promotion Sharpe so coveted. Furthermore, the rifleman reconnects with his old and greatest enemy: Obadiah Hakeswill, the man who survived a hanging and is therefore considered indestructible, and the man responsible for his flogging early in his Army career. Now, Hakeswill is part of the same battalion as him and is determined to ruin his life. Sharpe is determined to change his fate. And when Teresa, his former Spanish lover, reveals that he now has a family, a little daughter he's never met, Sharpe will do anything to join them, who are now in Badajoz. However, to cross the walls of this French-held city, he must face a terrible siege, a battle where the only certainty is death.

Sobre o autor

Bernard Cornwell

"
