Rachel de Queiroz

Rachel de Queiroz (Fortaleza/CE, 1910 – Rio de Janeiro/RJ, 2003) ainda não tinha 20 anos completos quando publicou uma modesta tiragem de O quinze, seu primeiro romance. Tal era a força de seu talento que o livro despertou imediata atenção da crítica em todo o Brasil. Em 1939, mudou-se para o Rio de Janeiro, mas nunca deixou de passar parte de seu tempo em sua fazenda no sertão cearense. Cronista e romancista primorosa, Rachel de Queiroz escreveu peças teatrais e livros infantis enquanto também se dedicava ao jornalismo. Foi a primeira mulher a integrar a Academia Brasileira de Letras, ocupando a cadeira n^o 5, em 1977. Faleceu no Rio de Janeiro, aos 92 anos. A Editora José Olympio publica sua obra completa, entre eles os clássicos O quinze e Memorial de Maria Moura.
