Nélida Piñon

Nélida Piñon nasceu no Rio de Janeiro em 1937 e estreou em 1961 com o romance Guia-mapa de Gabriel Arcanjo. Ao longo da carreira, colaborou em publicações nacionais e estrangeiras, proferiu conferências em diversos países e foi traduzida para diversas línguas. Foi catedrática da Universidade de Miami e escritora-visitante de diversas universidades, entre elas Harvard, Columbia, Johns Hopkins e Georgetown. Vencedora dos mais prestigiosos prêmios de literatura no Brasil, ganhou no exterior os prêmios Juan Rulfo, do México; Jorge Isaacs, da Colômbia; Gabriela Mistral, do Chile; Rosalía de Castro e Menéndez Pelayo, da Espanha; e Vergílio Ferreira e Lusofonia, em Portugal. Em 2005, pelo conjunto de sua obra, recebeu o importante Prêmio Príncipe de Astúrias. Foi doutora honoris causa das universidades Poitiers, Santiago de Compostela, Rutgers, Florida Atlantic, Montreal, UNAM e PUC-RS. Em 1989, foi eleita para a Academia Brasileira de Letras e, em 1996, por ocasião do centenário da ABL, tornou-se a primeira mulher a presidi-la. Em 2012, foi nomeada Embaixadora Ibero-Americana da Cultura. Faleceu em 2022, aos 85 anos, em Lisboa.
